Hooked on Island Cove!

After visiting a few relatives in Kawit, Cavite, my whole family was treated to a fun-filled outing in the area as they brought the clan all over the most famous tourist spots. Of course, a bubbly cousin shared her knowledge on their hometown along the way. The name, Kawit, is derived from the Tagalog word kawit (hook) which is suggestive of its location at the base of a hook-shaped shoreline along Manila Bay extending to the tip of Cavite City. Kawit is the birthplace of Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Republic of the Philippines. It is also the location of his home, the Aguinaldo Shrine, where independence from Spain was declared on June 12, 1898.

Our last stop for that Saturday was the Island Cove Resort and Leisure Park which is a 12-hectare island sanctuary in Cavite. When coming from Manila, it is a breezy 25-minute drive from the tree-lined Roxas Boulevard. Pass the scenic Coastal Road, and you will arrive at Binakayan town in Kawit, Cavite and onto the Island Cove Resort. It sheltered an environment of convenience and ease, laid back in elegance and warm suburban Asian hospitality. With over 130 rooms ranging from hotel suites to deluxe rooms, from simple units to duplex structures, each room is complete with air-conditioning units, refrigerator, a safety deposit box and also comes with a telephone for room service and outside connections. The stay at Island Cove was a refreshing way to end the Kawit Tour—or so we thought.

My cousins and I totally relaxed and laidback in our rooms while the children enjoyed the bubbling and bustling adventures of the water park with the various pools, inflatables and exciting slides. There are also other outdoor options for basketball, bicycle rentals, fishing, horse riding/rental, and kayaking with additional fees. We also discovered that we can indulge in a pampering treatment at the resort's full-service spa, Island Spa. Services include massages, facials, body wraps, and body scrubs. The spa is equipped with a sauna. A variety of treatment therapies are provided, including aromatherapy. Then we capped off the day with a drink at the bar, complete with a selection of imported wines and spirits.

My two kids really enjoyed at Oceania Water Park. The buffet breakfast at Sangley Point is very good with very accommodating staff since we were a big, rowdy group. The Island Grill serves only the best lunch and dinner buffet, specially prepared for distinct taste buds. Fruits in season are turned into a sparkling shakes and refreshing juices.

Upon check-out, the front desk staff was very helpful to us when asked more about the hotel-resort, and they boast of elegant and fully- equipped seminar halls and function rooms to handle all types and sizes of meetings. From conferences and banquets, be it for a private tea party, a convention for a thousand persons or even cocktail receptions for 2,000 guests, they claim they have had serviced special affairs complete with lights and sounds facilities.

As a whole, the Island Cove Leisure Park provided an abundant set of memories for my clan, of kids and adults alike.

Villa Alfredo’s Resort

A Paradise resort in Pampanga...

They say that Villa Alfredo’s Resort is the paradise at the heart of Pampanga, and they could not have been more right. Sited in San Fernando, Pampanga, which is smack dab in the city, Villa Alfredo’s Resort is hailed the most stylish garden resort. I would have never thought to take a vacation in Pampanga until I saw an ad online for it and I decided, why not? And that why not became a wonderful opportunity to experience a comfortable stay amidst the lush tropical gardens, teeming with exotic flora and fauna.

Slide ‘til You Drop at Splash Island!

Not all water theme parks are created equal. Splash Island offers something thrilling for everyone at any stage in life.
Splash Island Rates,Reviews

Located at Southwoods Ecocentrum in Binan, Laguna, my wonderful experience at Splash Island started when we saw some Metrodeal promo on Facebook.  Our package was five day passes free with every purchase of five passes. What a deal! So all four adults, and six kids with ages ranging from 10-16 years, got into a van for this late outing to Laguna.

A short getaway to Antipolo Star Resort

Antipolo Star Resort would be my recommendation to you if you want to escape from the heat and noise of the Manila but you have only limited time, it would be a fabulous spot for a short getaway to unwind and relax. It is in Antipolo’ east end, located at 25km away from Manila.  It is really convenient and doesn’t need you to burn off your pocket for a budget to escape because it is just an hour away from buzz of the city! We were looking for someplace to chill and relax during weekend when we made the business trip to Manila. We got a good picture of the resort from its official website and it didn’t disappoint us when we checked it out.

Getting to Antipolo Star Resort

Antipolo is accessible by jeepney or FX taxi. It is very easy to get in there by commuting on Jeepney from terminals in Metro Manila. To feel more like a local, we got in there just by jeepney. To go by car or by taxi will just take about an hour following on the navigation.

Unwind and Relax

They have the first saltwater swimming pool in a resort in Philippines. What so special about it?  Yeah, no more sore eyes or skin allergies after swimming. According to the staff, the salts are imported from Australia and it makes the pool like a healthy spa which can help to soften skin and hairs. There are three pools in the resort. One adult with 4 to 5 ft, and another two kid pools with 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 ft. There are three large waterfalls and five big mushroom shades with fountains on top. Chilled by the poolside and surrounded by the overlooking views which I loved the most.
The resort is the 3000 square meters of manicured lawn. I lay down on the lawn and enjoyed the overlooking view of Sierra Madre range of mountains and the endless vista of views over the rice fields of Teresa. It was splendid and breathtaking! The cooling breeze was so refreshing and comfy. You can just take Instagram-worthy photos easily.
They have different size of Kubo, Pavilion and Gazebo which would be perfect to accommodate a lot of people from 10 pax to 75 pax. It is suggested for group activities like company teambuilding or friends and family gathering. There is a “Sawali Stage” which you rock and sing like a star. I think it would be best if you come in a group with family or friends to spend the day at its finest.

Other things to remember

·      The resort is closed for maintenance and cleaning from 6am to 8am and from 6pm to 8pm. Guests are requested to take note of this and check out either by 6am (night guest) or 6pm (day guest).

·      The routine maintenance on swimming pools is conducted from 4am to 8am and from 5pm to 8pm. They are strict about the swimming attire. No cotton garments or any kind of street clothes.

El Masfino Resort in Bulacan
The Road to El Masfino

As part of a training team, I was particularly excited taking on the function of being program lead in our company’s team building outing. Management set specific directions on when, where and how this will be done—in two weeks’ time, somewhere in Bulacan, activities must be held outdoor, rain or shine, and getting there should be part of the program.  After doing my online research on potential facilities in Bulacan, management approved the group rates offered by El Masfino Country Club, Inc. in San Rafael, Bulacan, succeeding an ocular done by our HR with a few of our bosses. Involving 150 participants, it required the ad hoc team to organize the transport, meals and program arrangements.

Luckily, I was with half of the committee assigned to the advanced party, while the other half stayed with the participants to give out more clues during the journey to the venue. We were also tasked to coordinate with managers of restaurants located at rest stops along NLEX. We took the Sta. Rita Exit to enter Maharlika Highway, then after a 10-minute drive further, a right turn at Pinacpinacan Road, then a left turn at F. Viola Highway. In no more than 10 minutes, we were at the entrance of the property.

Arriving close to 4:00 PM the day before the event, we were welcomed with smiling staff assisting us with our luggage and training materials. We checked into our spotless rooms then proceeded to the grounds to scout for areas for the program activities. The swimming pool area was pristine, the grassy areas were well kept and the landscaping of the grounds were meticulously planned. We were so pleased to see that an obstacle courses sprawled over the property, like the stations we needed, and even tried them out for safety purposes.

After a dinner out, we talked to some of their staff at the reception area, and they said that the facility actually required membership to access the country club, but since exclusivity is frowned upon by many residents in the area, they allow walk-in guests when they are not fully booked, or when there are no social events scheduled for the day. Entrance fee for non-members is P300/head for adults while P150/child below 4 feet and these fees become cheaper during the off-peak months of June to October. These seem a bit pricey for the usual day tour but the beauty, wholesomeness, and ambiance of the club is definitely worth the expense. An added discount is also provided for guests of members.

As the team turned in for an early tomorrow, we appreciated the immaculate beddings of our rooms, as if it was like we were laying on clouds. Their bathrooms, too, were very modern, and most importantly, very clean.

The following morning greeted us with a great view of the property—the rolling greens and trees swaying in the wind. A beautiful sight to kick-start our preparations for the activity stations. The staff happily helped us out by carrying around our training equipment to the assigned areas. When done, we had a very filling breakfast, inclusive with the room rates, and then proceeded to our assigned stations when the teams finally arrived.

Judging from the laughter and smiles from our colleagues, everybody seemed to enjoy and praised the committee for selecting a luxurious place for the company’s team building, most especially their buffet lunch. It now poses a challenge for the next company outing committee to top that.

Beat the heat and enjoy the Nature!

Come to this Natural Hot Spring Resort in Pansol with your loved ones and have fun!

The province of Laguna has always been close to my heart with many memories of my family’s summer outings from my childhood, and even with work friends in my adulthood, actually. My most recent trip to this hospitable region refreshed my appreciation of the province’s natural beauty.

Laguna is a province located at the Southeast of Metro Manila. It is blessed with abundant natural resources and has about 40 rivers with a total area of 50 hectares; flora and fauna abound in Mount Makiling and Laguna de Bay. It is widely known as the resort capital of Luzon due to its hot spring pools, with Mount Makiling as the source. The legendary Mount Makiling is also a tourist attraction in the province, preserved and protected by the University of the Philippines Los BaƱos. It is one of the most famous hike trails for educational tours and for first-timer trekkers. The best time to visit Laguna is during the summer months from March to early June because of the hundreds of natural hot spring pools in the area. It is also ideal to visit from November to February when the temperatures are relatively cool and have fewer local tourists.

Spring Forest Resort Pansol Laguna is one of the best affordable public Hotspring Resort in Pansol Calamba Laguna. It has 3 Adult pools and a kiddie pool, the pools are elevated wherein the one at the very top is the "hotspring" (picture below)! They also have many picnic huts or gazebo available which you and your friends can drink, eat and sing in their videoke machines (5 pesos per song). The Resort is open 24 hours 7 days/week and has NO check-in/out time. If you're traveling with your love one and would want to have some time alone together, you can also book a couple room with them, no need for reservation. The place is so quiet, the air is fresh perfect for a quick getaway from the busy and noisy streets of Manila.
